Miro Kaimukī opened up on the thoroughfare of Wai‘alae Avenue late spring of 2020. The name might sound familiar as the place was home to Café Miro for twenty-three years. Led by new owners and some of Hawaiʻi’s best—Head Chef Chris Kajioka of Senia and Head Bartender Justin Park of Bar Leather Apron— Miro Kaimukī left our mouths wanting more.
Miro Kaimukī offered a five-course prix fixe menu. Not sure if this style of menu was a product of the pandemic, but this made ordering easy as none of us spoke French. The prix fixe menu was $65, which was an amazing price for this caliber of food. The wine pairing was $35, which helped loosen our lips. Unanimously, the second course, egg yolk with celery root, bacon and parmesan, was the best! It was like slurping parmesan cheese out of a bowl.
Accompaniments were also available for a nominal fee. For $15 extra, a generous amount of shaved black truffles could be added to the dish. The warm loaf of sourdough bread brought us back to our childhood and left crumbs all over the table. It is also worth mentioning that the fourth course of beef cheek with green farro and brassicas could be substituted for Wagyu Short Ribs by adding $15, but unnecessary as the cheek melted in our mouths and placed a smile on all of our faces.
Our server Erin deserved a kiss if there were no pandemic. Erin was friendly, attentive, accommodating, and knowledgeable about the menu. The menu did not go in detail about each course, but Erin took the time to explain the menu to all of us. Her pronunciation of the French wines sounded good to our ears and her leather-bound server notebook properly fitted the ambiance for the restaurant. Erin also made sure that there was never an empty glass on the table, courses came out on time, and she divided the check among five couples. Erin and the team of Miro Kaimukī delivered impeccable service and they all deserved an elbow-bump.
Miro Kaimukī was a blessing in disguise. It was incredible to enjoy a French-inspired menu that incorporated local ingredients and techniques from abroad in Kaimukī. It would be hard to imagine that the price for this five course menu would stay the same given the level of culinary experience that was in each dish. Take advantage of this amazing opportunity and spread the word!
